My hometown
My hometown is called Eger. It is a small town, which is situated in the north-eastern region of Hungary. It has 56000 inhabitants, and it is the county-seat of Heves county. It lies right at the foot of the Bükk mountain, and it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
Eger is very famous for its history. It played an important role in the war against the Turkish army in the 16th century. The Eger castle was defended by István Dobó and many other famous people, including lots of women.
Eger has a wide range of entertaining facilities. It has a famous theatre, two cinemas and a huge library. It has many restaurants, pubs and clubs. Eger is most famous for its wine. You can try all kinds of wines here, from dry to sweet, and red to white. A very popular tourist attraction is Szépasszony Valley, which is full of wine cellars.
Eger is noted for its beautiful architecture. The most amazing buildings are the castle, the cathedral and the main building of the college. There are many other churches, statues and people very often gather at Dobó square, which is the main square of the town.
I like Eger, because I think this is the most beautiful town in the country. Dobó square and Széchenyi street look gorgeous at Christmas. Eger has a great college, and it has a really busy student life. I can always go for a walk in Érsek garden, where the air is clean, and sometimes I can see squirrels jumping from one tree to another. Transportation is very simple in Eger, so you can get everywhere within a few minutes. Local buses travel every 5 minutes, so just have to get on one.
However, there are a few things which I dislike about my hometown. For instance, the bus station is very crowded and sometimes it can be dangerous. It is difficult to make money here, because there aren’t enough workplaces. The hospital also has a bad reputation, but there are signs of improvement.
I am totally sure that this is the place I want to grow old in. I also want my children to grow up here, because this is a very happy small town, where every day is like a gift.
